Trinidad Carnival 2014: Jouvert – Chocolate City 3rd March

J’ouvert. PARTY ON DE ROAD…

Wikipedia description:
J’ouvert is a large street party during Carnival in the eastern Caribbean region. J’ouvert is a contraction of the French jour ouvert, or dawn/day break.

In the early hours of Carnival Monday you’d find a lot more activity than usual for that time of the night. On the dark streets of Port Of Spain, Chocolate City members began to assemble.

Usual offerings of corn soup and other foods were available to line the stomach for what was ahead.

As soon as the truck set off it was like somebody hit the button, activating the madness. Instant bacchanal. This lasted right through until the truck parked up. Other peaks came when we passed other trucks on the road, where DJ’s entered into a friendly clash with revellers showing support and respect for each other’s bands (and of course taking this opportunity to whine on anyone who caught they’re eye) and obviously the refreshing water trucks. Cassie also took the mic to perform a couple of his tracks.

Chocolate was distributed fairly and regularly ensuring the momentum was sustained. Alcohol and food seemed to be endless.

Safety was a clear priority and the security did an excellent job for both members and the public.

On the whole, Chocolate City J’ouvert Band were amazing and I would definitely recommend and play with again.

A big shout out to Vinny Ranks for the support.
