Berlin Carnival 2014: Glow with Machel Montano

Astra hosted the hugely anticipated Glow fete for this year’s Berlin Carnival with featured Soca King Machel Montano. It was clear from early that this event was going to be a mad one. From earlier in the night, there were long queues as revellers tried to get inside and secure their spot for the performance. Dutch Soca Lovers turned up as a team as usual, marching through the grounds and singing the lyrics to ‘Happiest Man Alive’ at the top of their lungs. The energy was evident from outside the venue.

Inside the vibes continued to build as DJ’s warmed up the crowd. Then it was time for the man himself Machel Montano to take to the stage. He and DJ Stephen Music went through his catalogue, with each song being received by cheers and screams of excitement. During his performance, Machel took time to recognise his musical peers Swappi, who was in the crowd taking in the show, and Erphaan Alves who took the mic for a few seconds on the Antillies Riddim.

After the show which lasted about 90mins, Double MM took time to take pictures with fans before heading out. The fete continued until early hours of the morning, and when we left at 05:30, it was still pumping!

This year was the biggest and best attended Glow so far. Have a look at the pictures from the night.
