De Winery Are Soon To Have Their Fete

Prepare Yourself For An Unmissable Fete

From the first time I saw them I knew they had something very unique and quite special. What made that even sweeter was the fact that they didn’t realise what they actually had.

De Winery are a T-shirt section in one of the biggest mas bands in Notthing Hill Carnival, Cocoyea. They have been playing mas as De Winery for just over five years and each year they grow in size.

What started as a small group of like minded friends, who decided to do ‘something different’ for carnival, has now turned into a collective of over 120 people.

What Makes Them Unique?

Although Soca music originates from the Caribbean, De Winery is a combination of a vast blend of countries, ranging from the West Indies to Africa, back over to UK and all the way out to India. What unites them and keeps their bond strong are their common interest, love and enthusiasm for Soca music and enjoying life to the fullest. Once you see them in action it becomes apparent that they are like a family or at least a group of close friends.

What Makes Them Special?

When we think of De Winery, one word comes to mind, Infectious. There infamous slogan “it’s a family ting” is true to form, they are like the family you never had or remind me of the ones you love. Their sheer love and passion for the music and positive vibes is so apparent that

even if you had no love for Soca music, you’d want to be a part of their movement. Their ethos is to make carnival what it used to be in yesteryears and concentrate solely on the love of the music and the enjoyment of playing mas.

Unlike other bands, De Winery do not do this for profit, they simply do this for the love of soca, thus allowing them to build strong bonds between one another all year round, but most importantly if they don’t see each other for a year or so, at least at carnival they can reunite in an environment of fun and madness. Once you join De Winery, you will have an extended family for life.

Keep an your ears up and your eyes out for their fete.

  • It will be good.
  • It will have plenty vibes
  • It will have you begging for more.
