Muzik Lil Muzik
Muzik Lil Muzik (MLM) are the UK’s first sister songstresses of Soca and are known for their special sisterly bound. In 2011 they set the pace in becoming Double award winning UK Groovy and Power Soca Monarchs and in 2012 were awarded with the title of best Soca duo/group & best UK Soca artist 2012. MLM are young, dynamic, and talented, with a passion for music and collectively are defined by the elements of their culture. With future aims of exploding on the UK and international Soca scene, their passion for music and their Caribbean heritage drives them to vocally express themselves through the musical art of Soca.
From birth music has had a key role in the lives of these young ladies, as a result of their parents strong influence. From there on they have been listening, writing, and singing the music they love. Growing up in a musically orientated family led these them to play a variety of instruments including the saxophone, guitar, piano, cello, and steel pans. These roots allowed both Muzik and Lil Muzik to have a musical ear and to be amazing musicians today. With a strong focus on lyrical content, they encapsulate the mind of people across the world, creating a unique relationship between Soca music and the world, which everyday people can relate to.
Both MLM ladies have nurtured their passions for music, dance and performance throughout their youth. Having attended Vestry School of Dance and Performing Arts they have been trained in various forms of dance, drama and singing. Through their love for their culture they aim to merge these skills with aspects of their culture to create distinctive performances, and music that is inimitable. MLM are driven by positivity, spirituality, and love therefore throughout their music, expect a positive underlying message, to encourage, capture and uplift listeners.
Their style has been influenced by a vast variety of musical genres including, Lovers Rock, Reggae, RnB, Gospel, Calypso, and of course Soca. Their Caribbean heritage stems from St Vincent, St Lucia and Barbados; recognising the unique sound that each island brings, they uniquely explore and incorporate these influences. With the aim of taking UK Soca to higher heights, they are driven by their love for their culture, and their zeal to give their Muzik a voice. MLM’s recent nomination for ‘Best soca duo’ in the International Soca Awards for their groovy hit ‘Make a Way’ has drawn much positive attention to these young ladies and their musical potential.
MLM are passionate about their community, young people, and helping others to be successful. This passion led them to develop Make Life Magnificent Inc. their organization that they created which deliver the Caribbean Cultural Experience, which is a programme for young people. This programme consists of summer projects and workshops run in schools, which allow young people to experience different elements of Caribbean culture including, Caribbean history, creating masquerade costumes, learning how to play steel pans, and learning Caribbean dancing which they choreograph to Soca music. These workshops have been very successful and MLM are determined to continue their work in both their community and on the Soca scene.
